Paonia resident Rose Byers died Monday, March 6, 2017, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 93.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, at the Friends Church in Paonia with Pastor Sherry Mitchem officiating.
Rosa Julia Rodriguez Lizardi was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, May 11, 1923, to Pablo Rodriguez and Monserrate Lizardi. She spent her early childhood in Puerto Rico. Her family moved to New York where she graduated from high school.
On June 11, 1956, she married Kenneth Byers in San Diego, Calif. They moved to Paonia in 1972.
She was a member of the Paonia Nazarene Church, Gideon's Society and the car club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, traveling and car club activities.
She is survived by her children, Bill Calder of Coos Bay, Ore., Mike (Amber) Byers of Paonia, Frances "Carolyn" (Leonard) Pingel of Benton City, Wash., and Michelle Cumpston of Paonia; a sister, Frances Wolff of Olympia, Wash.; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Byers; and daughters, Joann and Betty.
