Seven Hotchkiss K-8 students have been named to the Middle School All-State Choir. Students from around the state send in audition tapes in the fall to be judged and it takes months before results are announced. For the audition, students are required to demonstrate the following skills: sing a solo with piano accompaniment, sing scales and intervals, sight-read, and perform aural recall which means the student listens to a brief musical passage and then sings it back.
Music director Jeanette Carey said, "I'm so proud of all of the students that auditioned and thrilled to have seven students make it; it's a testament to the students' bravery, hard work, dedication, love of music, and the ability to believe in themselves. We were doubly excited to find out that we had the most students make it in all of CMEA District 7 which includes counties like Delta, Mesa, Gunnison, Montrose, and more. Well done, Hotchkiss music students!
The Middle School All-State Choir will meet in Denver Thursday, Feb. 1, and Friday, Feb. 2. Students will rehearse for a day and a half and have a performance at the Bellco Theatre at the Colorado Convention Center on Friday at 7 p.m.
