Crawford resident Sylvia Ann Mills died May 27, 2018, at Paonia Care Center. She was 74.
She was born April 25, 1944, to JR and Mary Birdwell in Farmington, N.M.
On Oct. 21, 1989, she married Mason Mills in Glenwood Springs. They shared 27 years of marriage before his death in 2016.
Mrs. Mills was a homemaker. She worked in the Hotchkiss High School lunchroom and later earned her cosmetology license from the tech college.
She enjoyed sewing, painting ceramics, quilting, cooking and spending time with family, especially during the holidays.
She is survived by two brothers, Archie (Jo) Birdwell of Mesa, Ariz., and Fred (Vicki) Birdwell of Evans; five children, Cletis (Diane) Kirkpatrick of Sandy, Utah, Christina (Kim) Hegarty of Platteville, Kevin Kirkpatrick of Aurora, Kameal (Brian) Clark of Crawford and Nikki Mills of Paonia; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mason; and two brothers, Bobby and Leon Birdwell.
A graveside services will be held at the Crawford Cemetery later this week.

Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
