Scott Tipton had no reason to attend, or even bother to respond to the invitation to, the scheduled debate for citizens to hear from both candidates for House Seat in the 3rd Congressional District. Why should he? The Republican slate always wins in Delta County so why waste his time?
Solid Republican commissioners do not pay attention to worried North Fork citizens concerning natural gas leasing in their backyards. Why should they? Staunch Republican voters will always reelect them and, when term limited, their chosen successors. They will most likely even vote for a Libertarian in Republican clothing.
Did you know that the candidates' forum in Delta is not a debate and that Roger Bentley demanded that questions for his candidate be given to him prior to the forum? That is against the rules of the League of Women Voters. The league had to back off from their traditional role of hosting and moderating this event. Granted, Bentley did include the Democratic party leader in vetting the questions.
So, why bother to vote? The outcomes are assured. Do they have to be? Maybe it is way past time for the unaffiliated and discontented Republicans as well as the hard-working Democrats of Delta County to step up and have their voices heard.
