Returning state placers Blake Benson and Warren Minerich continue to be consistent point-earners for the Paonia boys track team.
At Saturday's 37th annual Demon Invitational at Glenwood Springs Saturday, Minerich placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 11 inches. In the discus, Benson placed fifth with a throw of 135 feet, 4.5 inches.
Benson was the highest placing 2A discus thrower at the meet, which saw a meet record-breaking throw of 165-10 by Moffat County.
Both throwers are ranked in the top three in state in their respective event.
On the track, Caden Meilner broke two of his personal records in distance races.
Meilner placed fifth in the 3200 meter run with a new personal best time of 10:43.98. The junior also took more than 11 seconds off of his 1600m time to set a new personal best time of 4:44.43, coming in 10th out of 56 runners. The times put Meilner in the top 18 in the state.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
