Since January 2016 Greg Brink has been a member of town hall staff with the official job title of "intern." He has worked on a variety of projects under the guidance of town administrator Katie Sickles. He has also represented the town and its interests at meetings of other organizations.
The program is jointly funded by the Department of Local Affairs and the Town of Cedaredge, enabling the town to have an extra person to help with the work load.
Describing his day-to-day duties with Cedaredge, Brink said, "I feel that my time the town was used working on projects that other staff didn't have time for."
Some of the projects that Brink has worked on are the branding project, the directional street signage project, and Chamber of Commerce initiatives and programs.
During his time at Cedaredge, Brink completed his masters degree in government at the University of Colorado. "My goal is to have a career in city management," he said.
He is getting experience in budgeting this year and has been put in charge of the town's 2018 budget along with the town finance director. Budget hearings began this month and this experience in budget development will proceed under the general supervision of town administrator Katie Sickles, Brink notes, as she is the person ultimately responsible for it. The town budget "is pretty well in balance now," Brink said.
The DOLA funding for the administrative intern position will end this year. Trustees had a discussion at a recent meeting about trying to find a way to continue Brink as a town employee even after the DOLA-funded program ends.
