Lee Marts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3571 and its auxiliary in Delta are gearing up for its fifth annual golf tournament at Devil's Thumb. This year, the tournament will be on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20. Registration will start at 8 a.m., followed by a salute and pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States, then tee time!
The tournament, and the VFW, needs the support of both golfers and additional sponsors. Four person teams are only $280 for the 18-hole event, singles are $70. Lunch and a golf cart are included at no extra charge, and all you need to do is get the right hole-in-one to win a car provided by Hellman Ford.
The proceeds from this annual event will benefit the building fund of VFW Post #3571 and its auxiliary. The Veterans of Foreign Wars assist veterans in a variety of ways; they are truly an organization of "Veterans Helping Veterans." Community service is also high on the list of VFW priorities, including everything from education programs for the youth to helping hands for the elderly of our community.
For more information on the tournament, to get your pre-entry form or sponsorship information, or to see if you qualify for membership in the VFW or its auxiliary, contact the Lee Marts post commander, Louis "Corky" Ware or auxiliary senior vice president Della Ware at 872-3327.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
