The theme for the 2018-2019 school year for Vision Charter Academy is "Onward and Upward," reflecting the trend of increasing educational opportunities for learners, improving test scores and adding additional field trips and exploration classes. This continuous improvement theme also builds on the Vanguard mascot of the school in being the first and regional leader in individualized education. For 17 years Vision has led the way in personalized learning, parent involvement, and diverse educational opportunities.
With the addition of a local growth measure called Galileo, Vision looks to use data more effectively in best meeting learners' and families' needs in ways that spark their curiosities, fuel their passions and increase academic growth. Galileo is a standardized measure followed by adaptive means of identifying learning gaps or areas needing more challenge. Angela Valentine, the new MTSS and data specialist, has been tasked with making data meaningful to the school and to each and every learner and family. Galileo is just "one piece of the educational pie" served at Vision Charter Academy which partners with over 50 businesses in offering a wealth of choice in community-based learning opportunities.
The highly qualified coordinator supported (home-based path) learners and families are already working on their individualized learning plans and counting learning hours. Teacher supported (class-based path) learners will start on Aug. 20 at the Delta or Surface Creek (Cedaredge) campuses.
The Vision Charter Academy staff will be kicking off the new year on Aug. 14 with an Onward and Upward, the game show, event. For more information go to www.visioncharteracademy.org.
