Everett Webb and his wife Darlynn of Hotchkiss attended the Delta County veterans' coffee last week where Everett received an eagle head cane recognizing his military service. The presentation of canes to honor returning veterans is an American tradition dating back to the Civil War. Webb served with the U.S. Air Force from 1966-70 including service in Vietnam. He and other veterans will be further honored later this week by National Vietnam Veterans Day. President Donald Trump has designated March 29 as a national day of recognition to honor and commemorate the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families.
The Welcome Home Alliance for Veterans which is headquartered in Montrose sponsors monthly meet-and-greet coffees for Delta County veterans on the third Tuesday of every month. Veteran services officers are on hand each month to answer questions and make referrals. The next coffee will be held on Tuesday, April 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pondy in downtown Cedaredge.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
